Additional information:

The PELLETB examination is required as the first portion of the testing process to continue in the hiring process with the Fairfield Police Department and many other law enforcement agencies in California.

It is a multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank written examination designed to measure reading and writing ability. Tests take 2 hours and 15 minutes to administer, which includes instructions and exam time. The PELLETB contains four sections:

- Spelling (applicants select the correct spelling of a word from a list of options)

- Vocabulary (applicants select the correct meaning of a word from a list of options)

-Clarity (applicants select the sentence that is most clearly written from a pair of options)

-Reading Comprehension (applicants read a passage and answer questions about the passage’s content)

If you have taken the PELLETB examination within thirty days of this testing date, you are not eligible to take the examination.

Physical Agility Testing (Optional)
Applicants interested in employment with the Fairfield Police Department are also invited to participate in the Fairfield Police Department Physical Agility Test (PAT) immediately following the PELLETB examination.

The Fairfield Police Department PAT mirrors the POST Work Sample Test Battery and consists of the following five events:

99-yard obstacle course
165-pound dummy drag
6-foot solid wall climb
6-foot chain-link wall climb
500-yard run

NOTE: The Fairfield Police Department PAT is specific to Fairfield Police Department applicants and may not be accepted by other law enforcement agencies.

*PELLETB scores may also be used when applying to other agencies to waive their written examination during the application process.
