INCIDENT: Targeted Crime Suppression-Operation Consequences
LOCATION(S): Twentynine Palms, Adelanto, Victorville, Apple Valley, Hesperia, San Bernardino, Bloomington, and Colton.
SUMMARY: Between January 12, 2026, and January 18, 2026, investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department – Gangs/Narcotics Division, along with deputies from patrol stations, Specialized Enforcement Division, Jail Intelligence Team, San Bernardino County Probation Department, California Highway Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations, Upland Police Department, Montclair Police Department, Ontario Police Department, Fontana Police Department, and Barstow Police Department, continued the targeted crime suppression efforts of Operation Consequences. Additionally, the San Bernardino Movement Against Street Hoodlums (SMASH) Street Enforcement Team (SET) conducted proactive patrols in the City of Victorville and surrounding jurisdictions.
During the one-week period, which included a focused operation in Victorville and surrounding High Desert communities, on January 16, 2026, 21 search warrants were served. As a result, investigators contacted gang members and people prohibited from possessing firearms. Investigators made 63 felony arrests and 48 misdemeanor arrests. Over one pound of suspected methamphetamine was seized. Investigators seized 76 firearms during the operation, which included two ghost guns.
On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. Proposition 36 applied to five of the above arrests.
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors authorized funds for county-wide crime suppression. The intent is to provide additional funding to the Sheriff’s Department, allowing for increased law enforcement services related to quality-of-life issues affecting the communities in our county.
Operation Consequences continues to focus on conducting targeted crime suppression operations and parole and probation checks in the High Desert and the Sheriff’s jurisdiction surrounding the city of San Bernardino. The operation will include personnel from the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, Specialized Enforcement Division, and patrol stations, as well as California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Probation, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Operation Consequences will take place over the next several months to curb violent crime, disrupt and dismantle targeted criminal street gangs, and locate and arrest criminals who are illegally possessing, manufacturing, and trafficking firearms.
