Scissors Threat Sparks High-Speed Pursuit: Suspect Arrested After Ramming Patrol Car

LOCATION: 15300 block of Carmelita Avenue, ending at State Highway 71 and Ramona Avenue
SUSPECT(S): Jimmy Herrera, 45-year-old, Resident of Chino Hills

SUMMARY: On January 19, 2026, at 6:36 p.m., deputies responded to the 15300 block of Carmelita Avenue for the report of a male suspect who had brandished scissors and threatened the victim's life. The suspect, later identified as Jimmy Herrera, a 45-year-old resident of Chino Hills, fled the scene prior to deputies' arrival.
An area check was conducted and deputies located Herrera driving a gray Honda Accord southbound on Interstate 71. A traffic stop was initiated however, the vehicle failed to yield. During the pursuit, Herrera purposely backed his vehicle into a deputy's marked patrol unit and drove in opposite lanes of State Highway 71.
After the conclusion of the pursuit, Herrera was taken into custody, and booked at West Valley Detention Center for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Evading Arrest, and Criminal Threats.
