WINTER WEATHER ALERT

Good Afternoon Far Hills Residents,
As you are probably aware, the area is anticipating a large snow storm this weekend, with a majority of the precipitation and accumulation occurring during the day on Sunday, January 25th. We’d like to remind you to please ensure your vehicles are not street parked on any municipal or county roads on Sunday, so that our Department of Public Works employees can plow our roadways effectively, pursuant to Borough Ordinance 83-8 (Parking – Snow Streets). Due to the heavy amounts of snow forecasted, our officers will be strictly enforcing this ordinance.
Specifically, Peapack Rd, Dumont Rd, De Mun Pl, Prospect St, Spring St, and Railroad Ave must remain clear of any parked vehicles.
We thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Be safe and do not hesitate to reach out to our officers should you require assistance.
 Thank you.

Winter Storm Preparedness Tips

Prepare an emergency kit with essentials like flashlights, extra batteries, a battery-powered radio, non-perishable food, water (one gallon per person per day for at least 3–7 days), medications, blankets, and a first-aid kit.

Secure your home by insulating pipes, caulking and weather-stripping doors and windows, checking smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and ensuring your heating system is functional.  Keep emergency heating sources like fireplaces or space heaters properly ventilated and never use generators, grills, or camp stoves indoors.

Winterize your vehicle by keeping the gas tank at least half full to prevent fuel line freezing, checking antifreeze levels, ensuring tires are in good condition, and packing a winter storm kit with jumper cables, sand or kitty litter for traction, a shovel, flares, a flashlight, and warm clothing.

Stay informed by monitoring weather forecasts through reliable sources like NOAA Weather Radio, local news, or emergency alert systems.  Sign up for community alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.  If you must drive, travel during daylight hours, stay on main roads, and inform someone of your route. Never run a generator inside your home or garage—place it at least 20 feet away and in a well-ventilated area.

Check on neighbors, family, and pets, especially vulnerable individuals. Keep pets indoors and provide extra food, water, and shelter.  If power is lost, conserve energy by lowering the thermostat and using extra layers of clothing to stay warm.
