Advisory

Weather Advisory - Snowstorm Expected This Weekend - Move Vehicles From Roadways - See Important OEM Information Attached

The Monroe Township Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is actively monitoring conditions and preparing for the anticipated snowstorm expected this weekend.

The storm is expected to begin during the early morning hours on Sunday and continue into Monday morning. At this time, the National Weather Service is predicting snowfall totals ranging from 6 to 12 inches for our area. The latter portion of the storm is expected to include a significant accumulation of ice and snow. As with all weather events, projected snowfall amounts and timing remain subject to change over the next 24 to 48 hours.

The Monroe Township Department of Public Works will be working continuously throughout the weekend to restore roadways to safe and passable conditions as quickly as possible. To support snow removal operations, residents are required to remove vehicles and garbage containers from roadways.

Unnecessary travel during this storm puts lives at risk. Dangerous road conditions will significantly delay emergency response and snow-removal operations. Residents are strongly advised to remain off the roads unless travel is essential.

Please report all power outages directly to JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS.

Winter Storm Preparedness & Safety Tips for Residents

 Before the Storm

  • Stock Up on Essentials: Ensure you have enough food, water, medications, and household supplies to last at least three days.
  • Prepare for Power Outages: Have flashlights, extra batteries, phone chargers, and blankets readily available.
  • Move Vehicles Off Roadways: Park vehicles in driveways or garages to allow DPW crews to safely and efficiently plow and salt roadways.
  • Secure Outdoor Items: Remove garbage and recycling containers, portable basketball hoops, lawn furniture, and other loose items from the street and secure them on your property.
  • Have Ice Melt Ready: Keep salt or sand on hand for sidewalks and driveways.

During the Storm

  • Avoid Unnecessary Travel: Road conditions may become hazardous quickly. Stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
  • Dress for the Cold: Wear layers, hats, gloves, and waterproof footwear if you must go outside.
  • Use Heating Sources Safely: Never use grills, generators, or propane heaters indoors or in enclosed spaces.

After the Storm

  • Give Plow Crews Space: Snowplows operate around the clock. Please do not follow too closely or attempt to pass them.
  • Use Caution When Walking: Watch for icy sidewalks, snowbanks, and reduced visibility.
  • Check on Neighbors: Consider checking on elderly or vulnerable neighbors who may need assistance.
