Mail Thief Hooked for Multiple Felonies 
An investigation stemming from a suspicious person call led to the detention of an adult male with an outstanding felony warrant and the discovery of stolen mail, drug paraphernalia, and burglary tools, resulting in multiple felony charges.
San Mateo, CA – On January 21, 2026, at approximately 8:17 a.m., San Mateo Police Department officers responded to the 800 block of Highland Avenue on a suspicious circumstance report involving possible mail theft.
Upon arrival, officers were alerted to a departing vehicle driven by a single occupant that matched the description provided by the reporting party. Officers conducted a traffic stop for a license plate violation and determined the driver, Shomari Evans, had an active felony warrant.
During a search of the vehicle incident to Evans’ arrest, officers located a large amount of mail belonging to multiple individuals, as well as a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and lock-picking tools. Evans was subsequently arrested for first-degree burglary, petty theft with two or more prior convictions, possession of a controlled substance with two or more prior convictions, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and the outstanding warrant. Evans was transported to the San Mateo County Jail where he was booked for his charges.
