Winter Storm Aware
Dallas is closely monitoring weather conditions forecasted for Saturday, January 24, 2026, and Sunday, January 25, 2026. At this time, the National Weather Service is forecasting a mixture of winter weather, with a high concern for ice.
Forecast details may change as we get closer to the weekend. In the meantime, Town personnel are making necessary preparations in the event winter weather impacts the community. In the event of needing emergency shelter, the Dallas Civic Center located at 206 S Oakland Street, Dallas, will be open Saturday night 8:00pm to 7:00am as well as Sunday night 8:00pm to 7:00am. Facility is accessible, with Town personnel on site for supervision.

Before the Storm
• Monitor weather alerts
• Stock food, water, meds, and essentials
• Charge phones and backup batteries
• Avoid unnecessary travel
Staying Warm Safely
• Keep space heaters 3 feet from flammables
• Never leave heaters unattended or overnight
• Use indoor-approved heating devices only
• Check smoke & carbon monoxide alarms
If Power Goes Out
• Use blankets, layered clothing, and close off unused rooms
• Use fireplaces or gas heaters only if properly vented
• Never use ovens, grills, or generators indoors
• Gaston County will announce shelter locations if widespread power outages occur
Assemble your emergency preparedness kit
•1 gallon of water per person (and animals) for a minimum of three days
•Non-perishable foods for each member of your household
•Pet supplies and food
•Flashlights
•Extra batteries
•Cell phone power banks and charging cords
•AM/FM weather radio
•Blankets
•Fire Extinguisher
•First-aid kit
•Have battery-operated smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
•A week’s supply of your medications
Stay home and off the roads this weekend (until at least Monday)
•NC DOT crews and first responders should be given priority on the roadway. Help them help us and stay home.
•Stranded vehicles may be left on the side of the road and marked with a piece of yellow caution tape. If you see a vehicle with yellow caution tape on the mirror or wrapping the vehicle, it has been checked by first responders, and it is not an emergency.
