Storm Emergency Declaration (No Parking on Village Streets)
Pursuant to Article 2-B of the New York State Executive Law, the Village has declared a storm emergency restricting vehicular parking on Village streets from Sunday, January 25, 2026 at 12:01 a.m. through Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 12:01 a.m., to allow for uninterrupted snow removal and emergency access.
Due to the expected intensity and duration of the coming storm event, to permit our Department of Public Works employees to plow without issue, and to allow residents adequate time to prepare, the Village of Pelham is declaring this Storm Emergency in advance. While this is not a travel ban, residents are advised to limit local travel to the extent possible.
Declaration
A Storm Emergency is hereby declared to be in effect:
- Start: Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.
- End: Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.
What this Means (Action Required):
- All parked or standing vehicles must be removed from Village streets no later than 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, January 25th and must remain off Village streets until the storm emergency expires, with the exception of any vehicles parked in designated on-street areas with Village parking permits. All other vehicles should be parked in driveways or other off-street locations so crews can plow curb-to-curb and keep roadways passable for emergency vehicles.
- Potential Penalties / Enforcement: After a reasonable effort to contact the owner, the Village of Pelham Police Department may tow any vehicle that is parked/standing on a Village street and/or that impedes snow removal or emergency access during the storm emergency. Owners are responsible for all towing and storage charges, and violations may result in applicable fines and penalties under Village Code.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the region from late Saturday night through Monday afternoon, with heavy snow possible, potential accumulations of 8–14 inches, and localized amounts over 12 inches possible. A period of mixing with sleet/freezing rain is possible Sunday night, especially closer to the coast.
- As of Friday morning, heavy Snow Potential late Saturday night into Monday:
- National Weather Service model ensemble probability for 6"+ is high (>85%) late Saturday night into Monday; 12"+ potential has remained around 50% across the region.
- Snow may begin as early as late Saturday night and may last into Monday afternoon. The heaviest snow likely falls Sunday into part of Sunday night. (National Weather Service)
- A dry/powdery snowfall is likely at this time, although a period of wetter snowfall and/or wintry mix is possible for portions of the Tri-State area. (National Weather Service)
- Plan now for potential disruption to travel and daily routines Sunday into Monday due to heavy snowfall, high snowfall rates, and blowing/drifting snow.
