01-23-2026 A WINTER STORM MESSAGE FROM MAYOR TOM GIORDANO
The National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Watch for Bergen County from 3:00 am on Sunday, January 25 through 6:00 pm Monday, January 26, with total snow accumulation expected to average 6-10 inches around the County, with locally higher amounts possible. Snowfall rates could be between 1-2 inches per hour, with reduced visibility. Heaviest snowfall will be from Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening. Temperatures during the day, Sunday and Monday will be in the low to mid 20’s and nightly temperatures will be 10-15 degrees. Wind chill values will be between 0F – 5F.
All vehicles must be moved off the streets no later than 11:00 pm on Saturday, January 24 and remain off the streets until streets are clear of snow. This will allow DPW crews to properly plow the streets curb to curb.
NO GARBAGE COLLECTION ON MONDAY, JANUARY 26. Next Collection for this route will be Thursday, January 29.
If you have a Christmas tree at the curb, please pull it back onto your yard until your next garbage collection.
- Basketball hoops must be removed from street as they pose hazard to plowing crews and equipment. Any damage to hoops during plowing operations will not be the responsibility of the Borough.
- Clearing of Vehicles - State law requires the removal of snow and ice from all vehicles, including the roof and hood, before driving. DO NOT CLEAR VEHICLES IN THE STREET.
- Clearing of Sidewalks - Shoveling of sidewalks is required for the full width and including the driveway apron. Corner properties must provide access to public streets. Shoveling must be done within twenty-four (24) hours after the snow has stopped. DO NOT THROW SNOW INTO THE STREET.
- Clearing Around Fire Hydrants - Property owners with a fire hydrant on their property must maintain a three-foot radius of the perimeter of a fire hydrant free of snow and ice so that there is no impediment to the use of the fire hydrant. The removal of snow and ice must be done within 24 hours after the snow has stopped.
Monday morning's commute will be hazardous and slippery. Please use caution while traveling. We will continue to monitor this situation and issue updates as necessary.
The Waldwick Police Department as well as the Fire Department, DPW and Ambulance Corps will be ready if assistance is needed by any resident.
If we lose power, there will be a warming station set up at the Ambulance Corps Building. A separate Nixle will go out with additional information if needed. Also, to report downed wires or outages, please contact PSE&G at 1-800-436-7734.
The Waldwick Board of Education meeting that will be held on Monday, January 26th will not be held in person, rather on Zoom. Please go to Board of Education website for further information.
Once again please check on your neighbors to make sure they are alright. Please keep your cars off the streets so that the plows can clear the roads.
I will be keeping an eye on the forecast and be in contact with our responders as well as the DPW.
Be Safe the next couple of days.
