National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Watch For Bergen County From 3:00 PM Sunday Through 6:00 PM Monday

National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Watch For Bergen County From 3:00 PM Sunday Through 6:00 PM Monday

Please listen to this message in its entirety.

Snow starts in the very early morning hours Sunday and continues through Monday morning. Total snow accumulation is expected to average 6– 10 inches around the County, with locally higher amounts possible. Heaviest snowfall will be from Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening. Snowfall rates could be between 1-2 inches per hour, with reduced visibility. As the storm moves closer, changes in track could result in mixing, which can lower snow totals. Without mixing, snow totals would be higher.

Temperatures during the day Sunday and Monday will be in the low to mid 20’s and nightly temperatures will be 10-15 degrees. Wind chill values will be between 0F – 5F. Temperatures from Tuesday through next Sunday will continue to be in the lower 20’s during the day and single digits at night, with wind chill values below zero. Winds will be 10 - 15 MPH.

The Monday morning commute will be hazardous and slippery. Use caution while traveling.

If you experience a power outage, please call PSE&G directly at 1-800-436-7734.  Register for MyAlerts from PSE&G to report outages and receive text/email updates about the status of the power outage. Text "REG" to 4PSEG (47734). Report an outage by texting "OUT" to 4PSEG. Power outages and the power outage map can be found at https://outagecenter.pseg.com/external/default.html

Do not call the Police Department to report a power outage or to ask when power will be restored

The Borough’s snow removal trucks will plow each street curb to curb during this snowfall. Please remove cars parked in the roadway during the storm and until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.  Vehicles parked on designated emergency snow routes during the storm will be ticketed.  Those streets include:  11th Street, 12th Street, 17th Street, Berdan Avenue, Berkshire Road, Fair Lawn Parkway, George Street (Berdan to Fair Lawn Avenue), Heights Avenue, Henderson Boulevard, Hopper Avenue, Orchard Street, Philip Street, Plaza Road, Prospect Avenue, Radburn Road, Rosalie Street and Sunnyside Drive.

Overnight parking is suspended on Saturday night into Monday morning.

Residents are also reminded that a Borough Ordinance prohibits the shoveling, placing, throwing or blowing of snow into or upon any street in Fair Lawn. The Borough would also like to remind residents that for the safety and welfare of our residents, please attempt to clear snow around fire hydrants and crosswalks.

The minibus service is cancelled for Monday.  The Senior Center and Library will be closed on Sunday and Monday.  The Community Center will be closed on Sunday and please call for Monday hours.   Please monitor social media for updates to garbage and recycling collection on Monday.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this winter event. Fair Lawn Emergency Management will continue to monitor this situation and issue updates as necessary. Stay safe!
