Friday Afternoon Update on Storm

South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management

MAJOR WINTER STORM THIS WEEKEND

Friday afternoon update:

What Has Changed: The Winter Storm Watch was upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning for the entire region. Snow amounts have continued to trend down slightly. Sleet and freezing rain amounts have trended higher for the I-95 corridor. This increases the chances of power outages.

FORECAST:

Widespread snow and sleet totals ranging from 10-12’ are expected. Snowfall rates near 1-2” per hour are possible during the daytime period on Sunday.

A transition to a wintry mix of sleet and/or freezing rain will occur from south to north inland into the I-95 corridor, and potentially as far north as the I-78 corridor, starting Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening.

There remains a threat for notable ice accumulations ranging from 0.1” to 0.3” across the I-95 corridor, southern New Jersey, and northern Delmarva.

The combination of heavy snow followed by sleet/freezing rain and breezy northeast winds gusting 20-30 mph could result in some isolated instances of downed trees and power lines, and power outages

IMPACTS:

  • Sunday’s road conditions will be hazardous. Widespread road closures expected.
  • Monday's road conditions will be very difficult with plow crews working to open up streets.
  • Power outages are possible if widespread icing occurs.

CLOSING
Here are some of the cancellations and closings;

  • South Brunswick Public Library - CLOSED Sunday
  • St. Augustine of Canterbury Church - no masses on Sunday or Monday
  • St. Augustine of Canterbury School - open house cancelled Sunday, NO school on Monday
  • St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church - no masses on Sunday or Monday

COMMUNICATIONS:

On Sunday, we will issue storm briefings by email and text through our Nixle platform. We will also use our social media platforms, Instagram and X @SoBrunswickPD. Briefings will be at 9 AM, 3 PM, and 7 PM.

Additional alerts may be issued as needed.

There will also be a dedicated phone line with a recording of the Nixle message. That phone number is (732)329-4000 extension 7979

Parking Restrictions

South Brunswick requires no parking on Township streets during snowstorms. Plow crews will be working around the clock to clear the roads. Doing this will allow the roadways to be cleared faster.
