OTPD: Office of Emergency Management Winter Storm Briefing (1/23/26 @ 6pm)
Posted on behalf of the Ocean Township Office of Emergency Management Chief Michal Rogalski Emergency Management Coordinator [email protected] Statement prepared by: Cpl. Nicholas McGavin Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator [email protected] This update reflects important changes from the prior briefing that are particularly relevant for Ocean Township. Update Since the Last Briefing: The Winter Storm Watch has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning for our area, effective Saturday night through Monday morning, indicating high confidence in significant impacts. Heavy snow is expected across Ocean Township, with current forecasts indicating approximately 8–12 inches, with locally higher amounts possible depending on mixing. There is an increasing potential for sleet and freezing rain Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening, which raises concerns for tree damage, downed wires, and isolated power outages, especially given saturated ground conditions. Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly late Saturday night through Sunday, with the potential for hazardous or impassable roadways at times. Prolonged dangerous cold will follow the storm and persist through much of next week, which may slow snow and ice melt and create ongoing black ice and infrastructure concerns. Coastal and marine conditions will deteriorate, with hazardous marine weather expected Sunday, which may impact any marine or back-bay operations. At this time, Ocean Township OEM continues to monitor conditions closely and coordinate with Ocean County and neighboring jurisdictions. We will reassess operational posture and any potential changes as conditions evolve. Additional updates will be distributed as new briefings are released.
