The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, Michigan has issued a FLOOD ADVISORY for the Muskegon River below Newaygo
WHAT: Flooding along the Muskegon River is possible due to an ice jam.
WHERE: Along the Muskegon River in Newaygo County, downriver of Croton Dam, around the city of Newaygo and toward Bridgeton. WHEN: Until 700 PM EST Saturday 01/24/2026
IMPACTS: Low lying areas along the Muskegon River that are prone to flooding may see rapidly changing water levels.
- As the river freezes up, ice can restrict the flow of the river and cause rises and falls in water level. Flooding due to freeze-up ice jams is typically minor, but can be unpredictable.

As of 6:40 am, the Muskegon River near
- Croton was at 4.78 feet with flows at 1,090 cubic feet per second. Flood stage is at 9.0 feet.
- Newaygo was at 11.61 feet and rising. Flood stage is at 11.0 feet.
- Bridgeton was at 10.66 feet and stable. Flood stage is at 13.0 feet.
- As the river freezes up, ice can restrict the flow of the river and cause rises and falls in water level. Flooding due to freeze-up ice jams is typically minor, but can be unpredictable.
- If river levels reach a stage of 13.0 feet at Newaygo, closure of the Bridge Street Bridge, parks, and publicly owned boat launches may be possible.
