Winter Storm Update Saturday Morning
South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management
WINTER STORM THIS WEEKEND
Saturday morning update:
What Has Changed: We are still on track to see a high-impact event of heavy snow/sleet and freezing rain, though total snow amounts are lower. The first flakes are now expected around 6 am Sunday morning. The bulk of the heaviest snow occuring mid morning through the early afternoon. Snowfall rates can easily reach 1-2"/hr at times, and snow will initially be fluffier. Sleet is expected to overspread the area Sunday afternoon. This on top of 6"+ of snow means accumulations will become quite dense.
While snowfall amounts may have been reduced slightly, the impacts remain unchanged as major disruptions are expected with this storm, beginning tonight and continuing through Monday Morning.
FORECAST:
- Widespread snow and sleet totals ranging from 8-12” are anticipated over the I-95 corridor.
- Snowfall rates near 1-2” per hour likely (60-80%) during the daytime period Sunday.
- Sleet develops late Sunday afternoon.
IMPACTS:
● Heavy snow and some ice accumulation will make travel dangerous or impossible. Expect widespread road closures and significant delays on major interstates and highways on Sunday.
● Some isolated power outages are possible with ice accumulations
