City of Birmingham Snow Emergency Parking Ban

The City of Birmingham has issued a snow emergency parking ban starting on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 1 a.m. and lasting until Monday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. in anticipation of predicted snowfall totaling 3 to 6 inches on Sunday.

If the city receives less than 2.5 inches of snow, the Department of Public Services will lift the parking ban early, since we do not plow when there is less than 2.5 inches.

During an emergency parking ban, it is a civil infraction to park a vehicle or allow it to remain parked on any residential roadway until it has been cleared of snow. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and may be towed, and the registered owner of such a vehicle will be responsible for the towing cost. No tickets will be issued to vehicles with a handicapped parking designation.

Please help make it easier for DPS to clear the roads by ensuring that your vehicle is off the street. Once we plow after the snow ends, we welcome you to park on the street again. Please do not shovel snow into the road or onto someone else's property.

Gates at the Chester Street Parking Structure (180 Chester Street) will be open for free access to assist residents with moving vehicles off the street during the parking ban. For parking concerns, please call police dispatch at (248) 530-1889.

Instructions:

Snow Emergency Parking Ban Declared: Please remove vehicles from City of Birmingham roadways by 1:00 a.m. on Jan. 25. If the City receives less than 2.5" of snow, the ban may be lifted early.
