Storm operations plan
Winter Storm Alert & Snow Operations Plan Update µ´³FROM THE DESK OF MAYOR BIANCHINNI A major winter storm is expected to impact our area from Saturday night through early Monday afternoon, with a potential for 10-12+ inches of snow in Pemberton Township. An extended period of mixed precipitation, including snow, sleet, and freezing rain, is also expected during the afternoon hours on Sunday, with ice accumulations potentially ranging from 0.1 to 0.25 inches. The O¯ice of Emergency Management, Police, Fire, EMS, Township Administration, and Public Works Departments are working around the clock to ensure proper planning and sta¯ing is in place to ensure public safety is maintained throughout the storm event. Public Works crews are fully prepared and have pre-treated all main roads with brine to prevent ice from bonding. Plowing operations will begin at 5:00 AM on Sunday morning and continue in 12-hour overlapping shifts until the cleanup is complete. Salting of roadways during the event will be managed based on type of precipitation. What to Expect Timing: Light snow flurries start between 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM Sunday morning, with snowfall rates expected to be .5 inch per hour. Heavy quick accumulating snow, 1” to 2” per hour, is expected for our town beginning at 7:00 AM and will continue during Sunday daytime hours until the changeover to mixed precipitation begins between 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM. Plow Priorities: We clear primary roads and emergency access routes first (Tier 1), followed by secondary neighborhood connectors (Tier 2), and finally, cul-de-sacs, dead ends, and Municipal Lots (Tier 3). Cleanup: Our goal is to complete full curb-to-curb clearing before the Monday PM commute. How Residents Can Help Your cooperation is essential for e¯icient and safe snow removal. Parking: Per Township ordinance, § 182-22, the following regulations shall govern parking during "snow emergencies," which shall be defined to occur any time snow has fallen, and the accumulation is such that a coating exists on any street in the Township. o A. If the property enjoys a driveway, then vehicles must be parked in the driveway. o B. In the event that the driveway is not large enough to accommodate all vehicles, or if the property does not have a driveway, then when a snow emergency exists, all vehicles are to be parked on the even-numbered side of the street and will be prohibited from parking on the odd-numbered side of the street. o These regulations shall apply to all streets within the Township’s jurisdiction. Please move all parked vehicles o¯ the streets to allow our plows to clear the roads thoroughly and safely. Vehicles that impede plowing may be ticketed or towed. Shoveling Snow: Please direct snow from your driveway and sidewalks into your yard, not back into the street. Pushing snow into the street creates dangerous hazards and can make our job clearing the roads more difficult. Sidewalks: Property owners are responsible for clearing sidewalks adjacent to their property promptly after the snow stops. Limit Travel: Please limit non-emergency travel during the storm, if possible, to keep roads clear for emergency services and plowing crews. We appreciate your patience and assistance in keeping our community safe and accessible throughout the storm. Stay warm and safe! We will continue to provide updates via Nixle, our Facebook pages, and Township website.
