COLD WEATHER & ICE STORM EMERGENCY NOTICE π¨
π
Saturday, January 24, 2026
π Issued at 1:00 PM
Trinity County is currently under a Cold Weather Emergency with an Ice Storm Warning expected to impact our area beginning tonight and continuing through Sunday, January 25, 2026. Dangerous cold temperatures and icy road conditions are expected.
The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office is asking all residents to take this situation seriously and make preparations now.
π« COUNTY & SCHOOL CLOSURES
• All Trinity County offices will be CLOSED on Monday due to hazardous conditions.
• All Trinity County schools will be CLOSED on Monday.
• Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor each individual school district’s official social media pages for updates regarding Tuesday opening times, should schools resume operations.
πΎ PETS, LIVESTOCK, AND ANIMALS
The Sheriff’s Office understands the difference between animals that are acclimated to cold weather and those that are not. However, Texas law still requires all animals to be provided proper care, even in cold conditions.
This includes:
• Adequate shelter from wind and moisture
• Access to food and unfrozen water
• Reasonable efforts to keep animals warm
Animals that are not used to cold weather, including small pets, should be brought indoors during this event.
π° PROTECTING YOUR PIPES & WATER SUPPLY
• City or rural water users:
– Turn water off at the meter tonight before bed
– Leave water off until temperatures are above freezing
– Open faucets inside your home after shutting off water to relieve pressure
• Water well users:
– Leave a faucet dripping to keep water moving and prevent freezing
• All residents should wrap and insulate exposed pipes, regardless of water source.
If you turn off your water, plan ahead by filling bathtubs or containers for sanitation and toilet use, and ensure you have adequate drinking water available.
π₯ WARMING CENTERS
Burning Hope Church will open this evening as a warming center for those in need.
Additional warming centers in the City of Trinity, Groveton, and across the county will open if this becomes a widespread power outage.
π TRAVEL & SAFETY
• Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary
• Expect roads to remain icy throughout Sunday, January 25, 2026
• Call ahead to confirm businesses are open before traveling
• Check on neighbors, especially the elderly and those without heat
