OTPD: Office of Emergency Management Winter Storm Briefing (01/24/2026 @ 4pm)
Posted on behalf of the Ocean Township Office of Emergency Management Chief Michal Rogalski Emergency Management Coordinator [email protected] Statement prepared by: Cpl. Nicholas McGavin Deputy Emergency Management Coordinator [email protected] This update reflects the latest forecast guidance and has specific implications for Ocean Township. Ocean Township–Specific Weather Update: * A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 2:00 AM Sunday through 7:00 AM Monday for Ocean Township. * Current forecast guidance indicates total snow and sleet accumulations of approximately 5–7 inches across Ocean Township, with snowfall rates of 1–2 inches per hour possible Sunday morning. * Snow is expected to begin early Sunday morning, then mix with sleet and freezing rain Sunday afternoon, followed by a period of plain rain Sunday afternoon into the evening, before colder air returns. * Ice accumulations up to approximately 0.10 inches remain possible, with confidence still low on exact placement; however, Ocean Township remains within the area of concern for mixed precipitation. * Winds gusting up to 30–35 mph are expected, which, when combined with snow and ice accumulation, may result in isolated tree damage and power outages. * Travel conditions are expected to be very difficult at times, particularly Sunday morning and again during the Monday morning commute, due to snow-covered and icy roadways. * Following the storm, a prolonged stretch of dangerous cold will persist through much of next week, significantly slowing snow and ice melt and increasing the risk of black ice and extended infrastructure impacts. * A Gale Warning is in effect for marine zones Sunday through Sunday evening, which may impact coastal and back-bay operations. Ocean Township OEM continues to closely monitor conditions and coordinate with Ocean County and neighboring jurisdictions. While snow totals have trended slightly lower, the combination of snow, ice, wind, and prolonged cold remains the primary operational concern. Additional updates will be distributed as new briefings are issued.
