WINTER STORM WARNING – STATE OF EMERGENCY EFFECTIVE 5:00 PM TONIGHT, SATURDAY, JANUARY 24, 2026
Due to the impending storm, Governor Sherrill has declared a State of Emergency effective 5:00 PM, Saturday, January 24, 2026. The declaration urges all nonessential personnel to stay off the roadways unless absolutely necessary to allow for emergency services, DPW, fire, EMS and police to operate safely and effectively.
The storm is expected to bring heavy and widespread snowfall, dangerously cold temperatures, and wind gusts up to 25 MPH beginning in the early morning hours of Sunday through Monday morning, January 26. Total snow accumulations of 8–14 inches are expected, with higher amounts possible.
Parking Restrictions
There is no police-approved overnight parking beginning Saturday night until an announcement is issued declaring the end of the emergency. Even if you are approved for multiple nights, vehicles must be moved or a summons will be issued. No parking is permitted on Borough streets when they are covered with snow or ice.
Sidewalks and Snow Removal
Please allow Borough DPW crews to safely plow roadways. Residents must remove portable basketball hoops and any other obstructions from the right-of-way.
Once snowfall ends, residents must shovel the full width of sidewalks, including driveway aprons, within 24 hours. When shoveling or snow blowing, do not deposit snow into the street.
Please note that plows must push roadway snow into the Borough’s right-of-way, which includes sidewalks. Residents should keep this in mind when clearing sidewalks, as shoveling too early may result in additional snow being pushed back onto cleared areas.
Fire Hydrants
New Jersey State Law requires property owners to clear snow from fire hydrants within 24 hours of a storm. Please clear a path to the street and a three-foot radius around the hydrant.
Recycling Center
The Ho-Ho-Kus Recycling Center will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.
Vehicle Safety
All snow and ice must be removed from your vehicle, including the roof, hood, and windows, before driving. This is required by New Jersey State Law.
Closures and Transportation
NJ TRANSIT will temporarily suspend all bus, light rail and access link services at 4 AM Sunday, January 25th. Rail Service will be suspended at 2 PM Sunday, January 25th. Residents are encouraged to monitor njtransit.com or the NJ Transit mobile app for updates. Additionally, the Boxcar Bergen Bullet is suspended on Monday, January 26.
Power Outages
Snow and wind may cause downed trees and power lines. To report outages, contact PSE&G at 1-800-436-7734.
