A Snow EMERGENCY has been declared for the City of Lafayette. Click the link below for details!

Due to the approaching winter storm, Mayor Tony Roswarski has declared a SNOW EMERGENCY for the City of Lafayette effective today, January 24, 2026, at 12:00 pm. Read the detailed news release here: http://bit.ly/3NFiuY8
Vehicles must be removed from Snow Emergency Routes within 12 hours of a Snow Emergency declaration to enable clearing of the streets. You can view the Snow Emergency routes at https://www.Lafayette.in.gov/341/Snow-Removal  Don't live on an emergency route? Moving your vehicle off the street will still really help crews clear the roads, and we appreciate your help and cooperation!
The national weather service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area beginning 7 pm, Saturday, January 24 through 7 am, Monday, January 26, 2026. We are expecting 5+ inches of snow with very cold wind chill temperatures.
The winter storm is expected to bring brutal below zero wind chills and blowing/drifting snow. Wind gusts could bring down tree branches and cause power outages. Wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 15 minutes. If you have pets, make sure to take them out of the weather or provide them with adequate shelter. If you do have to be out, make sure you follow these tips:
• Leave early to get to your destination.
• Clear all of your car windows, headlights, and taillights of any snow and ice before driving.
• Slow down and leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
• Make sure your cell phone is charged and carry a charger with you.
• Carry a supply of food, water, warm clothing, blankets and a snow shovel in your vehicle in the event you do become stranded.
• If you are heading out of town, make sure you have a full tank of gas.
• Listen to the latest weather report.
We will continue to share updates on social media as soon as they become available.
For the latest updates regarding the winter storm or any travel advisories/restrictions, please check local television and radio stations, and online credible sources. Stay safe and warm, and watch out for one another.
