9:00 a.m. – South Brunswick Township Winter Storm Update
Roadway Conditions:
Snow has begun to accumulate on all roadways within the Township. Please refrain from traveling, as the rate of snowfall is expected to increase as the day progresses. Officers are currently responding to disabled vehicles throughout the Township. NJDOT, Middlesex County DOT, and South Brunswick Township DPW crews are actively working to address roadway conditions across the Township.
Travel Restrictions:
NJDOT has issued an Emergency Traffic Regulation Order that temporarily lowers all posted speed limits to 35 MPH on Interstate and State highways in New Jersey, effective 12:01 a.m. Sunday, January 25, until further notice.
The speed limit reduction applies to:
• All Interstate highways in New Jersey
• All U.S. and State highways in New Jersey
• The New Jersey Turnpike
• The Garden State Parkway
• The Atlantic City Expressway
In order for NJDOT, County, and local transportation partners to safely and efficiently clear roadways of snow, motorists should avoid driving unless they are essential employees needed for emergency response.
Weather Forecast:
Snow has arrived and will turn to heavy sleet later today. Moderate to heavy snowfall rates will continue into the morning, likely peaking between 1–2 inches per hour. These rates will persist until the changeover occurs. Snow is expected to transition to periods of heavy sleet between 1–3 p.m. We are expecting 1–2 inches of heavy sleet, which will result in very dense accumulations and challenging snow removal conditions.
Sleet will lessen nearing sunset, allowing some freezing rain to mix in and add ice accretions on top of existing wintry accumulations. Precipitation will then become more intermittent through the evening, exiting overnight.
Township Services and Closures Due to the Storm:
Due to the impending inclement weather and anticipated disruptions, Republic Services has canceled all trash and recycling collections for Monday, January 26. Please keep all cans and bags out of and away from the roadway until snowfall has stopped and plows have completely cleared your road.
Collections will resume on Tuesday; however, delays are likely for the remainder of the week.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
