Winter Weather Preparedness Reminder
Hello Denville!
Hope everyone is enjoying the snow day. The Mayor's Office, Emergency Management, Police, Fire, and Public Works Officials continue to monitor the winter weather as it hits our area. As always, all of our Emergency Personnel are ready to respond to any call for service. Only call 911 if it is a true emergency; otherwise, use the non-emergency number 973-627-4900.
Just a quick couple of reminders to assist our awesome Public Works crews that iare out clearing the roadways of snow.
SHOVEL SMART ❄️
Help Keep Our Roads Safe During Snowstorms
🚜 Shoveling the End of Your Driveway
When shoveling your driveway, if possible, clear the end (along the road) last. This allows plow crews time to push snow back and helps avoid having to re‑shovel after the plows pass.
If early shoveling can’t be avoided:
-
Pile snow on the “downstream” side of your driveway
-
The downstream side is the opposite direction from which the plow approaches (usually to the right when facing the road from your property)
-
This helps reduce the amount of snow pushed back into your driveway
🚫 It Is Unlawful to Put Snow in the Roadway
Do not throw, plow, or push snow into the street.
➡️ Always direct snow away from the roadway to keep streets safe and clear for emergency vehicles and snowplows.
