3:00 p.m. – South Brunswick Township Winter Storm Update
Roadway Conditions:
Snow has accumulated on all roadways throughout the Township, creating extremely hazardous and unsafe driving conditions. Since 8:00 a.m., officers have handled 10 motor vehicle assists and responded to 2 motor vehicle crashes. Travel is strongly discouraged, as conditions will continue to deteriorate and snowfall rates remain high. NJDOT, Middlesex County DOT, and South Brunswick Township DPW crews are actively working to address roadway conditions across the Township.
Travel Restrictions:
NJDOT has issued an Emergency Traffic Regulation Order that temporarily lowers all posted speed limits to 35 MPH on Interstate and State highways in New Jersey, effective 12:01 a.m. Sunday, January 25, until further notice.
The speed limit reduction applies to:
• All Interstate highways in New Jersey
• All U.S. and State highways in New Jersey
• The New Jersey Turnpike
• The Garden State Parkway
• The Atlantic City Expressway
In order for NJDOT, County, and local transportation partners to safely and efficiently clear roadways of snow, motorists should avoid driving unless they are essential employees needed for emergency response.
Weather Forecast:
A period of moderate to heavy sleet is expected. This will result in 1–2 inches of very dense sleet accumulation, which will be difficult to remove.
As the evening progresses, freezing rain will begin to mix in, potentially creating icy coatings on top of existing accumulations. By midnight, the majority of the storm is expected to exit the area. After that, only a slight chance of light mixed precipitation or a brief snow shower remains overnight into early Monday.
Township Services and Closures Due to the Storm:
Due to the inclement weather and anticipated disruptions, Republic Services has canceled all trash and recycling collections for Monday, January 26. Please keep all cans and bags out of and away from the roadway until snowfall has stopped and plows have completely cleared your road.
Collections will resume on Tuesday; however, delays are likely for the remainder of the week.
