Executive Order 8 was issued in anticipation of a severe winter storm causing hazardous weather conditions across the state, including heavy and widespread snow, prolonged periods of dangerous temperatures below freezing, and wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour. The Executive Order will take effect at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026 and will remain in effect until such time as it is determined that the Emergency no longer exist.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) will issue a commercial vehicle restriction for all tractor trailers, empty straight CDL-weighted trucks, passenger vehicles pulling trailers, recreational vehicles, and motorcycles at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, effective for the following roads:
o I-76 (entire length);
o I-78 (entire length);
o I-80 (entire length);
o I-195 (entire length);
o I-280 (entire length);
o I-287 (entire length);
o I-295 (entire length);
o I-676 (entire length); and
o New Jersey Route 440, both directions from the Outerbridge Crossing to I-287.
- Towing Orders for Highways:

o remove any abandoned or disabled vehicles on State and Interstate Roadways – Statewide
· NJ Transit:
o NJ TRANSIT will temporarily suspend all Bus, Light Rail, and Access Link services at 4:00 AM on Sunday, January 25. Rail Service will be suspended at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 25.
DPW:
o The DPW crew is actively plowing both primary and secondary roads, having started their plowing operations at 9:00 AM.
o Snowfall began at 4:00 AM, prompting the crew to begin salting the main roads shortly after, at 5:00 AM.
o Currently, there are 10 + inches of snow on the ground.

Preparedness:
- Be mindful of the possibility of large tree limbs or trees falling due to wind gusts. There will likely be debris in roadways, use extra caution while driving after the storm subsides.
- Residents are urged to stay away from any downed wires, and treat all downed wires as “live” even if power appears to be out in the area.
- Prevention Carbon Monoxide Poisoning - Do not run any fuel-powered generators in a garage or other enclosed space or near windows. This is a good time to test battery-powered smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

- Please avoid driving on during or immediately after a heavy snowstorm. The less traffic plow operators encounter, the more efficiently the roads can be cleared.
- Please place your garbage/recycling cans on your property and Not on/in street. Objects such as portable basketball hoops and hockey nets, etc. should be removed from the street to avoid being damaged by snow plows.

- Carbon Monoxide
- Any gas appliance can be a source of carbon monoxide, a dangerous gas that deprives the body of oxygen, resulting in serious injury or death. Don't use a gas stove as a source of heat, as this increases the likelihood of carbon monoxide poisoning. Make sure the stove is vented to the outside and the vent it not blocked. Install a carbon monoxide detector in homes where gas appliances, including gas stoves, are being used.
