Advisory

Ensure all outdoor heating vents are clear of snow and debris to prevent carbon monoxide from entering your home.

Due to the ongoing major snowstorm, residents are strongly advised to ensure all outdoor heating vents remain clear of snow and debris. Heavy snowfall and drifting snow can quickly block furnace, boiler, fireplace, and dryer vents, causing dangerous carbon monoxide exhaust to back up into the home. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly. Check vents frequently during and after the storm and carefully remove any buildup. If a carbon monoxide alarm activates or symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, or confusion occur, leave the home immediately and contact emergency services.
