Storm update: Please see important info below
Storm Update: DPW reports that snow has been pushed to the curb line wherever possible, and crews are concentrating efforts around trying to widen all corners and intersections, particularly around schools.
Amateur plow drivers and residents throwing snow back into the streets are extremely problematic. This is not only extremely dangerous as these mounts will refreeze into obstructions for drivers, it is also counterproductive; the snow will just get pushed back to the curb when the plow comes by.
Crews also continue working to clear walkways, ramps and steps at the train station and other City facilities, and snow and ice will be pushed to the curb wherever possible. Alternate side of the street parking rules will remain in effect to help facilitate these efforts.
Extreme cold temperatures will remain in the area throughout the week. Please ensure that you dress warmly when going outside.
Salting operations will continue after the storm and in the days ahead. Please note that salt is mostly ineffective in extreme temperatures and will be applied judiciously as necessary.
To help support these efforts, the scheduled garbage and recycling pickup has been modified as follows:
Districts 1, 2, 3, 9, & 10 - Bottles & Cans pickup on Tuesday, January 27th, garbage pickup on Thursday, January 29th
Districts 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 – Bottles & Cans pickup on Wednesday, January 28th, garbage pickup on Friday, January 30th.
Should you have any questions please contact Linden DPW Supervisor Jim Buckley via email at [email protected]
Residents are reminded to please:
• Do not block or shovel snow into the street
• Clear sidewalks within 6 hours after snowfall stops, or by noon the next day if snow stops overnight
• Do not allow children to play or build snow forts near the curbline
• Do not try to save parking space with personal items or garbage cans.
Residents are also encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts and follow the City of Linden, Linden Police Department, and other official government sources on social media to receive updates. For information about how to sign up, please visit https://linden-nj.gov/nixlesignup
Thank you again for your continued patience and support throughout this event. Your cooperation is an essential part of our efforts to keep roadways safe and ensure parking spaces are clear after the storm.
