Advisory

Bitter Cold Weather Expected Through the Weekend

Widespread late-night and early morning freezes are expected to continue throughout the week. Very cold Arctic air will bring dangerously low wind chills each night, creating hazardous conditions for people, pets, and property.

Please take the following precautions to stay safe and warm:

  • Dress for the cold: Wear layers, hats, gloves, and warm footwear.
  • Bring pets indoors whenever possible.
  • Ensure livestock have access to shelter, extra feed/hay, and unfrozen water.
  • Check on the elderly and those who are sensitive to the cold.
  • Use space heaters safely: keep them at least three feet from anything flammable, such as drapes and blankets, plug them directly into wall outlets, and avoid using power strips.
  • Protect sensitive plants from freezing temperatures by covering them or bringing them inside.
  • Prevent frozen pipes by wrapping exposed plumbing or allowing faucets to drip slowly.
