Officer Firearm Discharge Under Investigation
For Immediate Release: January 27, 2026
OPD News:
The Oakland Police Department is investigating the discharge of an officer’s firearm that occurred just after 4:30 p.m. on January 27, 2026, in the 3400 block of Webster Street.
Earlier, just after 3:45 p.m., the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) attempted to stop a suspect wanted in connection with multiple crimes while the suspect was driving in Oakland. As SFPD officers attempted to detain the suspect, the suspect struck and injured an SFPD officer with the vehicle before continuing.
OPD’s helicopter (ARGUS) followed the vehicle and directed officers on the ground. An OPD officer driving a fully marked patrol vehicle attempted a vehicle stop on the suspect. During that encounter, the suspect struck the fully marked police vehicle and was taken into custody. While the suspect was being detained, an officer’s firearm was discharged. There were no reports of injuries to the suspect or the officer.
Consistent with OPD policy, the discharge of the firearm is being investigated by the Oakland Police Department. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and the Community Police Review Agency (CPRA) are conducting independent investigations.
The Oakland Police Department remains committed to transparency. However, to ensure the integrity of the investigation, the release of information must be limited at this time. Additional details will be shared as soon as the investigative process allows and in compliance with the law.
