OPD News:
The Oakland Police Department Alcoholic Beverage Action Team (ABAT Unit) investigated an unlicensed smoke shop operating in East Oakland. On January 20, 2026, ABAT officers responded to multiple community tips regarding illegal activity at this business in the 2900 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
Through coordinated efforts with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration, officers seized an illegal assault weapon, significant quantities of marijuana, psilocybin (mushrooms), suspected ecstasy pills, and flavored tobacco products.
One suspect was taken into custody, and the case has been forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. The Oakland City Attorney's Office will follow up with legal action against the tenants, including civil charges and potential eviction.
The California Department of Justice funded this special enforcement, supported by Proposition 56 Grant.
