SMPD Advises Use Caution on S. ECR Due to Large Protest Tomorrow
ADVISORY:
The San Mateo Police Department is aware that tomorrow is a nationwide “walk out” day of protest and several of the schools in our city will be participating.
Officers will be monitoring the designated routes students will be following to ensure the safety of all pedestrians and drivers alike. Large groups of students will be travelling from our San Mateo schools, and southbound from Burlingame to their destination at Central Park.
It is anticipated that travel will begin at approximately 11:30am, with a goal to gather at the park by 1pm, with an estimated ending time of 4pm. The number of participants is currently unknown, but a large number is anticipated.
We want to advise all drivers who frequent S. El Camino Real during that time frame to drive extra cautiously as they approach the area between 5th Ave. and 9th Ave. We would also like to remind pedestrians participating to stay on the sidewalks.
Traffic may be affected in the following areas during the march:
Alameda de las Pulgas, S. El Camino Real, Aragon Blvd., 5th Ave., N. Delaware St., and a few other side streets connected to these thoroughfares.
The safety of all concerned is important to us, so please be careful out there tomorrow.
