01-30-26 Winter Storm Update: Current estimated snow totals for Rutherford County range from 4” to 9”. Snow is expected to begin between 12:00 AM and 3:00 AM tonight and continue throughout most of the day on Saturday. High winds may reduce visibility significantly while snow is falling, creating whiteout conditions that can make travel dangerous in a matter of seconds. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 5 below zero are expected from 1 PM Saturday through 1 PM Sunday, and these conditions can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes and increase the risk of hypothermia. Please keep this in mind if you go outside to go sledding and keep all exposed skin covered. Pets and livestock are also at risk if left outdoors without proper shelter. Please dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and help prevent frozen pipes by wrapping pipes, draining them, or letting faucets drip. Check on older adults, family, friends, and neighbors, and use heaters safely—never use grills or generators indoors. If you must travel, slow down, increase following distance, remember bridges and overpasses freeze first, and avoid unnecessary travel if possible.
