Narrative:
On January 24, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., patrol deputies from the Camarillo Police Station responded to a report of a subject disturbing in the 2100 block of Brookhill Drive in Camarillo.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the victim and determined that a felony vandalism had occurred. Deputies obtained information that the suspect, later identified as Shane Pedersen, was inside the residence with a loaded handgun and had threatened to shoot law enforcement officers if they arrived. Pederson also threatened to burn down the house he was in.  Arriving deputies observed Pedersen inside the residence holding a handgun. They immediately requested additional law enforcement resources to contain the suspect and protect the surrounding community. A shelter-in-place notification was issued for nearby residents as a precaution.

A number of teams from the Sheriff’s Office, including the SWAT team, Tactical Negotiations Unit, Unmanned Aerial Surveillance team, Rook team and K-9 unit were deployed to assist in taking Pederson into custody.  Throughout the several hour standoff, deputies made multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation by trying to convince Pederson to surrender peacefully, but throughout the incident he refused to communicate with the teams.

After several hours and the combined efforts of the teams listed above, Pederson was taken into custody.

A search warrant was obtained by Camarillo detectives for the residence. During the search, a black handgun was located inside the home and seized as evidence.

Pedersen was arrested and booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura.  The District Attorney’s Office filed several charges against Pederson, including for violations of PC 594(b)(1) - Vandalism exceeding $400, PC 69 - Resisting an executive officer, PC 136 - Dissuading a witness, PC 27545 - Unlawful transfer of a firearm, PC 422(a) - Criminal threats.  Pederson remains in custody, where he awaits court proceedings.
