Press Release: Doxing Incident Investigated; No Credible Threat to Downtown Redwood City
SUBJECT: Doxing Incident Investigated; No Credible Threat to Downtown Redwood City
LOCATION: Downtown Redwood City
DATE/TIME: January 30, 2026, Approximately 11:03 A.M.
At approximately 11:03 A.M., the Redwood City Police Department received a report of an alleged bomb threat affecting the Downtown area.
Because the Redwood City Police Department takes all threats seriously, officers immediately responded and investigated the limited information provided by the caller. Out of an abundance of caution, appropriate notifications were made to the affected public while the investigation was underway.
Based on the information obtained, no credible threat was identified, and evacuations were determined to be unnecessary. At no time was there an active or confirmed threat to the public.
The preliminary investigation has determined the call was likely part of a doxing-related incident involving a malicious false report. This type of conduct is taken seriously, as it unnecessarily diverts emergency resources and creates fear within the community.
The investigation into the source of the false report is ongoing. Individuals responsible for making false emergency reports may face criminal charges.
There is no known threat to Downtown Redwood City or the surrounding area at this time.
The Redwood City Police Department appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation and reminds the community that intentionally providing false emergency information is a crime.
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact the Redwood City Police Department’s non-emergency number at (650)780-7100.
