San Leandro, CA – On January 31, 2026, SLPD staff participated in a Regional Sideshow Enforcement Team (RESET) operation, which has been an ongoing multi-agency effort to prevent and conduct enforcement on illegal sideshows and street racing.
Approximately 11:17 PM, a San Leandro Police sergeant assigned to RESET attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Infiniti SUV for multiple vehicle code violations near the intersection of East 14th Street and Bancroft Avenue. The Infiniti failed to yield to the sergeant’s emergency lights and siren and began to flee. The sergeant shut off his patrol vehicle’s emergency equipment and did not pursue the Infiniti.
The Infiniti continued traveling northbound on Bancroft Avenue while being monitored from above by an Alameda County Sheriff’s Office air unit. A few moments later, the ACSO air unit reported the Infiniti had collided with a vehicle parked on the east curb of the 13800 block of Bancroft Avenue. The parked vehicle was determined to be unoccupied.
RESET officers from SLPD and allied agencies responded to the collision scene and initiated rescue operations and emergency medical aid to the 3 adult male occupants of the over-turned Infiniti.
The front passenger of the Infiniti was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the driver was medically transported in critical condition. The rear passenger was also medically transported for evaluation and treatment.
The San Leandro Police Department is investigating the driver for suspected driving under the influence and other criminal charges, while the fatal collision investigation is being headed by the California Highway Patrol.
Since both investigations are ongoing, further details are not being released at this time.
