Arrest Made on Suspect who Posed as Law Enforcement, Pepper-Sprayed and Assaulted Victims

INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon & Assault with a Caustic Chemical
LOCATION: 1800 Block of Noble Way, Landers
SUSPECT(S): Marion Earl Jones, 50-years-old, Resident of Helendale
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: Landers, CA- On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Morongo Basin Station deputies responded to a reported assault at a residence in the 1800 block of Noble Way. Upon arrival, deputies contacted a male and female victim. Deputy L. Gonzalez initiated the investigation.
The suspect, later identified as Marion Earl Jones, arrived at the property and falsely portrayed and identified himself as a law enforcement officer. He then pepper-sprayed the male victim in the face. Jones' use of the pepper spray immediately incapacitated the victim, which caused him to fall to the ground. While the victim was on the ground, Jones struck the victim multiple times in the back of the head. The victim feared for his life and yelled for help during the assault. A female victim exited a trailer located on the property and was also pepper-sprayed and assaulted by Jones. During the incident, Jones portrayed and falsely identified himself as a law enforcement officer.
On Friday, January 30, 2026, Deputy L. Gonzalez, with assistance from the Gangs and Narcotics Division, located and contacted Jones at his residence in Helendale, California.
Jones was arrested without incident for PC 245(a)(1) – Assault with a Deadly Weapon and PC 244 – Assault with a Caustic Chemical. A search warrant was subsequently served at Jones’ residence, where deputies located and seized additional evidence related to the crime, to include a large quantity of firearms.
Jones was booked into the High Desert Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.
