| Narrative: | |||||
| On 01/31/26, at approximately 11:46 a.m., Sheriff’s Dispatch received calls reporting Stephen Worthington was shot multiple times in front of his residence. One of the reporting parties identified the shooter as a heavy-set male driving a red colored hatchback style vehicle with an out of state license plate. Patrol units from the Camarillo Police Department responded to the shooting call and located Worthington suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies began conducting life saving measures prior to relinquishing medical treatment to the Ventura County Fire Department. Despite the actions of law enforcement and fire personnel, Worthington succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Detectives with the Major Crimes Bureau responded and assumed the investigation. As patrol resources were arriving on scene at the Walker Avenue location, a Sheriff’s patrol unit observed the suspect vehicle driving on the southbound 101 freeway in the city of Camarillo. An enforcement stop of the suspect vehicle was attempted, the vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit of the vehicle was initiated. The driver of the suspect vehicle accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and drove erratically. Sheriff’s patrol units continued to pursue the suspect vehicle and lost visual of it near the southbound 101 freeway and Reyes Adobe Road in Los Angeles County. During the investigation, detectives identified the shooting suspect as Steven Green. Detectives contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to make notification that Green was entering their jurisdiction and to seek assistance in locating the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle was located near Imperial Highway and the 405 freeway in Los Angeles County and an enforcement stop was conducted. Green eventually yielded and he refused to exit the vehicle. Additional law enforcement resources were summoned to prevent the vehicle from fleeing. During that time, Green shot himself taking his own life while inside the vehicle. Sheriff’s Major Crimes is actively investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Erik Hernanadez at (805) 384-4729. At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident, with no on-going threat to the public. |
