OPD Announces Public Safety Plan for Super Bowl 60 Events
For Immediate Release: February 3, 2026
OPD News:
This weekend, the Bay Area will host Super Bowl 60. While the game itself will be played in Santa Clara, numerous Super Bowl–related events are scheduled throughout the region, including several here in Oakland.
The Oakland Police Department’s (OPD) top priority is the safety of our community. Our goal is to ensure residents, visitors, and local businesses can enjoy Super Bowl–related activities safely and responsibly.
On Sunday, the NFL’s official Super Bowl Watch Party and Fan Zone will take place at the Henry J. Kaiser Center. To support this event, OPD will have a Mobile Command Post on-site. Officers will be stationed throughout the venue, and additional officers inside the Mobile Command Post will coordinate communications with the Oakland Fire Department and other city and local partners to ensure a safe and well-managed event.
Additional officers will be deployed in and around Lake Merritt, with a focus on robbery prevention and enforcement related to illegal ATV and dirt bike activity.
OPD’s Special Operations Division will also be deployed throughout the city, including OPD’s helicopter (ARGUS), Special Weapons and Tactics, traffic enforcement, and undercover officers. These specialized resources will be positioned in designated areas but will remain able to respond anywhere in the city as needed.
Officers will also be assigned along the Uptown and Downtown Broadway Corridor to maintain a visible presence and address public safety concerns. While focused on this area, these officers will remain available to respond citywide if necessary. Additionally, a Community Resource Vehicle will be stationed near 18th Street and Telegraph Avenue to support community engagement and provide a visible police presence.
This weekend also provides an opportunity for community engagement. OPD Background and Recruiting officers will be on site to connect with the public and share information about careers with the Oakland Police Department.
OPD recognizes that other venues across Oakland may also host Super Bowl–related gatherings. Businesses are encouraged to operate responsibly, follow all safety requirements, and partner with OPD to help keep patrons and the surrounding neighborhoods safe.
