Key items in this update:
- Overnight snow removal of Monroe Street Tuesday: residents must remove cars
- Discounted overnight parking offered
- County continues snow removal tomorrow
- City to suspend street cleaning
- Snow removal schedule updated with County roads
All vehicles parked on Monroe Street between Newark and 12th Street MUST have been moved by 6 p.m. tonight, Feb. 3, to allow for overnight snow removal.
Overnight snow removal operations will enable the City to pick up and transport snow to the City’s stockpile more efficiently, covering more blocks while minimizing traffic impacts. Additionally, it allows drivers to move their vehicles to better effectuate snow removal operations by allowing them to park in municipal garages at a discount (see below).
Temporary No Parking signs have been posted, and those who do not move their vehicles will be subject to ticketing and towing.
Public Works crews and contractors will start work in the area of Ninth and Monroe Streets to clear and haul snow to the stockpile location.
Drivers are advised to anticipate intermittent rolling closures of Monroe Street throughout the night as snow removal operations occur. Hoboken Police Officers will be on site to assist with detours.
Monroe Street will re-open on a rolling basis as each block is cleared of snow, allowing cars to park on the street as soon as the block is cleared.
Overnight snow removal operations are anticipated to end by 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
Snow removal operations involve large heavy equipment, including plows, payloaders, and dump trucks, which will cause noise. We apologize in advance for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as crews work to clear the parking lanes of snow.
County to plow during street cleaning hours on Hudson Street & First Street only tomorrow.
Starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the County will conduct snow plowing operations of curbside lanes on the west side of Hudson Street starting at 11th Street going south to Eighth Street, as well as on the north side of First Street east of Willow Avenue to Washington Street. Street sweeping enforcement ticketing is only occurring on these blocks.
Based on community feedback, the City will suspend street cleaning operations on all other streets until additional overnight snow removal is completed. The City anticipates street cleaning to resume next Monday, Feb. 9. When it resumes, more parking lanes will have been cleared for residents who will need to move their cars for street cleaning.
Community members are asked to please continue to dig out and move their vehicles to avoid impeding snow removal operations and being subject to a fine. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Keep travel lanes clear; Report untreated property
As residents shovel out their vehicles, please do not shovel snow onto the sidewalk or back into the streets.
The City and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) also remind drivers to park only in legal parking spaces, as close to the curb as possible, and ask all residents to keep travel lanes, corners, and crosswalks clear of parked and double-parked cars. This will allow first responders and emergency services to operate safely. Vehicles parked illegally, including those blocking the roadway or pedestrian areas, are subject to ticketing and towing.
Property owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the sidewalks, curb cuts, and curb ramps adjacent to their property. Property owners who do not do so are subject to fines between $250 and $2,000 if they do not do so.
Those who wish to report any unshoveled or untreated properties, can email [email protected].
