Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. requests the public’s help in locating Janet Jackson, 38, regarding a shooting that occurred on January 31, 2026.
At approximately 9:12 a.m., the ShotSpotter detection system picked up gunfire in the 100 block of South 7th Street. On surveillance video, a Black male suspect walked off the front porch of a residence at that location with a black rifle and fired one round at the property. He fled the scene in a black sedan, traveling northbound on South 7th Street.
Jackson is described as 5’3” and 165 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.
Director Miranda urges anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jackson to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
