STORM UPDATE 2/6/2026 - 9am
Winter Weather Advisory
• Timing:
○ Snow begins as early as 7:00 PM this evening.
○ Most likely accumulation window is between midnight and 6:00 AM.
○ Snow tapers off around 7:00 AM Saturday morning.
• Olaf Index Snow: 2
○ A coating to around 1 inch of snow expected across West Windsor.
○ This is not a blockbuster storm. Olaf tried, but this is more of a polite dusting than a full performance.
○ Even light snow can still be slippery, especially overnight when temperatures drop fast.
○ Engage the Teen-Age Shovel App if available. .
○ One inch of snow plus extreme cold still equals icy sidewalks. Please shovel and salt as required by local ordinance.
• Dorothy Index Wind: 6
○ Northwest winds increase overnight and into Saturday.
○ Gusts will be noticeable and will not improve your hairstyle.
○ Blowing snow and brief reductions in visibility are possible, especially if a snow squall develops near daybreak.
○ Dorothy says secure loose items now. Toto has already gone inside and refuses to come back out.
• Elsa Index Ice and Cold: 9
○ Elsa has taken full control of the thermostat and has absolutely no intention of letting it go.
○ Wind chills Saturday into Sunday morning expected between -10 and -20 degrees, with even colder values possible nearby.
○ Extreme Cold Warning is in effect. This is the kind of cold that hurts your face and makes you question all life choices.
○ Exposed skin can be affected quickly. Bundle up like you are heading to the South Pole, not the mailbox.
○ If you lose power, the cold becomes dangerous fast. Check on neighbors and bring pets inside. Elsa loves the cold. Your dog does not.
• Lightning McQueen Road Index: 4
○ Roads may look fine but can still be slick, especially bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces.
○ Snow squalls are possible early Saturday morning and can briefly reduce visibility and road conditions very quickly.
○ Slow down, increase following distance, and remember that even one inch of snow can cause problems when it is this cold.
○ Ka-chow still applies, just at a much lower speed.
Preparedness:
• Secure loose outdoor items ahead of increasing winds.
• Charge phones and devices in case of power interruptions.
• Limit time outdoors and dress in layers. Real layers, not optimism.
• Use caution if traveling overnight or early Saturday morning.
• Check on elderly neighbors and anyone who may need assistance in the extreme cold.
