| The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Lockwood Valley Sheriff’s Station is applying for an Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) grant through the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation. The Lockwood Valley Sheriff’s Station serves an area of approximately 610 square miles in northern Ventura County, including large portions of the Los Padres National Forest and the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area. Within this area there are approximately 300 miles of designated recreational OHV trails that are widely used by residents and visitors. Deputies regularly patrol these areas and respond to OHV-related collisions, as well as search and rescue calls for service. If awarded, the grant would support dedicated off-highway patrols focused on public safety, education, and responsible recreation, with enforcement used when necessary to protect trail users and surrounding communities. The grant application is available for public review, and comments may be submitted through the California State Parks OHV Division website at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. Public comments may be submitted from March 3, 2026, through May 4, 2026. |
