Wilmington Police have charged a Newark man in connection with illegal marijuana sales from a business.
Beginning in January members of the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division began an investigation into 53-year-old Ali Ahmed in reference to illegal marijuana sales being made from a business in the 900 block of Maryland Avenue- the “VIP Smoke Shop”. On January 16th at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers executed a search warrant at the business and Ahmed was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered a loaded .9mm handgun, 4,630 grams of marijuana and marijuana products, and $670 in currency.
Ahmed has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver- Tier 2
- Possession of a Controlled Substance- Tier 2
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was released on $85,100 secured bail.
