High Winds Cause Downed Trees and Power Lines in McDowell County
High winds this morning have brought down numerous trees and power lines across Pleasant Gardens, Marion, and Nebo. Over 1,500 locations are without power as of 8:30 a.m.
Several roads are currently closed due to power lines and trees blocking the road, including:
- US 70 West near Mackey’s Creek Road and the Pleasant Gardens Convenience Center
- State Street near McDowell Rescue in Marion
- Nebo School Road
Local fire departments, DOT, and utility partners are actively working to clear debris and restore services as conditions allow. A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7pm tonight for gusts up to 65 mph.
Citizens are urged to use extreme caution if travel is necessary this morning and to avoid closed roadways. Never cross down power lines or approach them for any reason—assume all lines are energized and dangerous.
Additional updates will be provided as conditions change.
