Residential Burglary Reported in Early Morning Hours

El Cerrito, CA — February 8, 2026 — The El Cerrito Police Department is investigating a residential burglary that occurred on February 8, 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Liberty Street.

Officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of a burglary at a private residence. Preliminary information indicates the suspect gained entry through a partially open window. During the incident, items from inside the residence were moved outside the home.

The residents awoke during the burglary, which caused the suspect to flee the area before additional property could be taken. No injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are working to identify the suspect and determine whether this incident may be related to other recent burglaries in the area.

The El Cerrito Police Department reminds residents to take proactive steps to protect their homes by ensuring all doors and windows are locked at night and whenever they are away. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity immediately, and review exterior lighting and other security measures.
