SVPD Drone Locates Injured Person During Welfare Check
On February 9, 2026, at approximately 7:27 a.m., Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) personnel responded to the 700 block of Cinnabar Place regarding a welfare check.
During a FaceTime call with a relative, the subject was observed lying in a concrete drainage ditch surrounded by grass and fencing. The subject appeared confused and possibly injured. Due to the open space terrain and accessibility concerns, SVPD patrol personnel deployed a department unmanned aerial system (UAS), commonly referred to as a drone, to assist in locating the individual.
Within minutes, the UAS operator successfully located the subject in the drainage area. The individual appeared injured and in need of medical attention. Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) and American Medical Response (AMR) were requested and responded to the scene.
The subject was provided medical care and subsequently transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.
The use of drone technology allowed responding personnel to quickly locate the subject and coordinate medical assistance, demonstrating the effectiveness of UAS resources during time-sensitive welfare checks and emergency responses.
