Severe Weather Update #3
Monday 2/9 1:30pm
Weather conditions are improving across Oʻahu. The High Wind Warning has been downgraded to a Wind Advisory. The Flash Flood Watch has also been cancelled. Continue to be aware of gusty conditions and wet roads. Strong gusts could still cause isolated fallen trees and downed powerlines. While the threat of flooding is past, continue to be aware of nearby streams, drainage channels, roads, ditches, and other areas known to flood as the ground is highly saturated.
- A Wind Advisory is in effect until 6am tomorrow (Tuesday). East winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are possible in this timeframe.
City crews and first responders have been busy responding to downed trees and powerlines, and blown roofs.
All City services and operations will resume as normal on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, following the improvement of weather conditions across Oʻahu.
All non-essential City offices and services are scheduled to reopen, and City employees should report to work as usual. Public facilities, including parks, the Honolulu Zoo, and municipal golf courses, will also resume normal operations unless otherwise noted by individual departments. Check for updates before heading out.
Residents and visitors are urged to use caution when traveling or cleaning up storm debris.
- Downed Power Lines: Avoid anything that may be touching downed lines, including vehicles or tree branches. Puddles and even wet ground can conduct electricity in some cases. DO NOT touch or go near. Report them to 911 or HECO.
- Drive carefully: Roads may be blocked or partially closed due to fallen trees, rocks, or debris. Use caution and watch for first responders and crews working in the area. Be aware of officers directing traffic. If a traffic signal is out or malfunctioning, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
- Begin clean up promptly: Photograph flood damage for insurance purposes before cleaning up. Do not wait for insurance adjuster or home inspectors. Clean up ASAP to avoid. Mold from floodwater can cause secondary damage if not addressed quickly. Wear heavy boots, gloves, and goggles during cleanup.
- Stay informed: Encourage others to sign up for HNL Alert, subscribed to trusted social media accounts.
At this time, there are no special collections scheduled for storm debris. The Department of Environmental Services encourages residents to follow normal sorting and disposal procedures once City convenience centers and transfer stations reopen on Tuesday, February 10. Green waste is accepted at all convenience centers and Kapaʻa Transfer Station.
This will be the final HNL Alert update for this severe weather unless conditions or forecasts change significantly.
