Suspect Arrested for Multiple Vehicle Burglaries, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Stolen Property

During an auto burglary investigation, an adult male was arrested for second-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, and possession of burglary tools.

San Mateo, CA – On February 10, 2026, at 4:21 p.m., San Mateo Police Department officers investigated a suspicious circumstances report in the 1800 block of Nash Drive. Through neighborhood surveillance footage, officers observed a suspect park a vehicle on Nash Drive at 3:44 a.m. that morning. The suspect then walked through the area, checking multiple vehicle door handles. The suspect entered a victim’s vehicle and rummaged through the cabin and trunk.

Shortly afterward, the suspect was seen returning to his vehicle carrying multiple backpacks and other items that he did not have when he arrived.

During the investigation, officers identified the suspect as Angel Vonbardeleben. His vehicle was entered into the local Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system.

On February 11, 2026, at 2:39 a.m., Vonbardeleben’s vehicle generated an ALPR alert near 3rd Avenue and S. Humboldt Street. Officers located the vehicle shortly thereafter near N. Delaware Street and Indian Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Vonbardeleben was identified as the driver and sole occupant.

During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers located clothing believed to be worn during the burglary, burglary tools, stolen property from at least three separate thefts, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and controlled substances, including one without a valid prescription. Vonbardeleben was arrested and transported to the San Mateo County Jail, where he was booked on the listed charges.
