| During the month of February 2026, multiple thefts from vehicles and vehicle burglaries occurred during the early hours of the morning. Credit cards stolen during the crimes were later used at a local establishment. Deputies assigned to the Moorpark Police Department patrol services responded and conducted a thorough investigation. During the initial investigation from patrol, surveillance footage of a vehicle and suspect were located. . The case was handed over to Detectives with the Moorpark Investigation Unit where the investigation continued. With the information collected by deputies on patrol coupled with utilizing law enforcement databases, detectives were able to identify Matthew Kopacz of Santa Clarita as the individual responsible for those crimes. On 02/10/2026, deputies and detectives from Moorpark located Kopacz in the City of Santa Clarita. Kopacz was arrested for the crimes committed in the City of Moorpark and transported back to Ventura County. Kopacz was booked for multiple charges including PC 459- Burglary, PC 530.5(c)(2)- Identity Theft, PC 484(a)- Petty Theft, and PC 466-Possession of Burglary Tools. Shortly after Kopacz’s arrest, another victim was identified. Kopacz was in possession of multiple stolen items and observed on video surveillance using the victim’s credit card. On 02/12/2026, detectives supplementally booked Kopacz for PC 530.5(c)(2)- Identity Theft and PC 496- Possession of Stolen Property. Kopacz remains in custody with a bail of $200,000. The Moorpark Police would like to thank the citizens and businesses throughout Moorpark for their assistance. With the collaboration and trust from the public, crimes continue to be solved, allowing the judicial system to hold those responsible accountable for the crimes.
