Incident Summary

On 02/11/2026 at approximately 4:40 PM, the Petaluma Police Department received a call from a community member that a subject was attempted to break into a building near Novak Drive at Lucchesi Park.

Officers were provided a description of the suspect and when the first responding officer arrived, he observed the suspect still attempting to break in. The suspect, who was later identified as  Jimy Soriano-Vazquez fled from the officer.

The officer gave several commands to stop and a foot pursuit ensued. When the officer caught up to Soriano, he began to assault the officer and continue to try and flee. The officer was able to contain Soriano, drew his taser and waited for additional officers to arrive.

Soriano eventually surrendered after a short standoff. He continued to resist officers as he was placed into custody. He was ultimately transported to the Sonoma County Jail and booked for the above charges.

Soriano is on active parole and a documented gang participant. He was also arrested on 02/01/26 by Petaluma officers for separate crimes, which included a separate violation of his parole.

The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the alert community member who called in the criminal activity.
