Train VS. Car - Press Release

On February 14, 2026, at approximately 1:09 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a train versus vehicle collision.

A female driver accidentally turned onto the railroad tracks and became stuck. The driver safely exited the vehicle prior to an oncoming train striking it. Upon impact, the vehicle caught fire.

There were no injuries reported. All involved parties remained on scene and fully cooperated with the investigation. There were no signs of impairment, and DUI was not suspected.

The railway was temporarily shut down for several hours to allow for emergency response, fire suppression, vehicle removal, and a full inspection of the tracks. The vehicle was removed from the tracks without further incident.

There was no threat to the public.

We would like to thank Union Pacific Railroad and Alameda County Fire Department for their collaboration and professionalism in ensuring this incident was handled safely and efficiently.

As a reminder, if your vehicle becomes stuck on the railway tracks, please call 911 immediately so emergency personnel can stop rail traffic and respond.
